The deeper we live the life of our bodies,
the deeper is the upwelling of love.
~ Stanley Keleman
Kevin Kunkel, MA is a lIcensed MFT psychotherapist, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, and Certified Massage Therapist. He holds a Masters in Clinical Somatic Psychology from the Santa Barbara Graduate Institute. Kevin has a long history of curious study of the intricate link between the body and the mind and the processes that move both towards stability, health, and wellbeing. His deep, early interest in both athletics and the inner workings of the mind set him up to naturally pursue a practice that attends to both the body and mind. As well, his early childhood foundation of a deep spiritual relationship allows for an ease of integrating a paradigm of personal spirituality within his work when useful. Kevin's therapy practice is influenced by his ongoing personal and professional studies of somatic psychology, trauma, mindfulness meditation, yoga and breath work, massage and energy work, and Eastern medicine. For two decades he has been a student and teacher of mindfulness, yoga, and breath work.
Kevin is dedicated to guiding clients back home to their bodies, gaining control of their body and mind...so they can in-turn then let go and surrender into the flow of one's life. He offers a treatment of mental and physical symptoms that works to bring you "home" to a more harmonious and balanced body and mind. He encourages one to own and renegotiate life experiences and stress that keep us stuck, unhappy, or unfulfilled, and create a new way of walking through life with greater ease empowerment and satisfaction.
The BodyMind Practices of somatic psychotherapy, mindfulness practices, and integrated bodywork fill a need within our communities. Kevin's work is a response to a fact of our time: that we are a community of people that have drastically lost the ability to feel at home in our own body and the skills to get there. This has left us with a cultural norm of having lost our ability to be grounded and centered enough to hear our body's signals and wisdom and make decisions according to this wisdom. When we are stable in the wisdom of our own body, we will be able to create families and communities that are also grounded and centered.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions on how us working together may benefit your situation.
