SOMATIC PSYCHOTHERAPY
Psychotherapy - offers a safe, compassionate place to deepen one's understanding of themself, their body, and their mind. A place to find balance, or to break from patterns in which you feel stuck. It is a place where two heads, and hearts, are truly better than one. Where I hold a non-judgmental attitude that is entirely focused on you, your highest good and self-discovery. I am both direct to support and guide, while steadfastly encouraging your own inner knowing to arise and express itself.
Somatic psychotherapy - While extremely helpful, our mind can often lead us in tangential circles and is rarely based in the present moment; rather, our thoughts are often focused on the past or the future and hold only a fraction of all the information available to us. The body, heart, and gut are all resources of information and often the key to change and deepening our understanding of the issue at hand.
Often the disorder and confusion we experience is due to our disconnection from the signals from our body, gut, and heart. Reconnecting to these parts of ourself can lead to a qualitative shift in how we are living our lives: more control in our life, our body, and our mind; more attuned to ourself and others in our life; more aligned with our true purpose and who we are; more grounded, centered, and balanced.
Working somatically is key to working with trauma and stress. Everyone's body feels the effects of trauma, whether it's been big traumatic events, or the daily bombardment from actively living in today's world. Trauma and stress are primarily physiological processes (Fight, Flight, or Freeze responses) that effect both our mind and body. Body-based, somatic approaches are critical to being able to release these physiological processes and bring balance to our body, mind, and life.
Somatic Experiencing is a therapeutic modality that is now accepted as one of the best ways to effectively resolve trauma, and has largely influenced the way I work with trauma, anxiety, and the effects of stress. Its effectiveness is due to its nuanced way of working with the physiological processes in the body that cause the mental and often physical symptoms we call "trauma".
I specialize in using the somatic therapies of Somatic Experiencing and EMDR therapy in the treatment of trauma-related symptoms of anxiety, depression, and the host of physiological symptoms that are effected by trauma and stress. In addition, I help clients through a variety of life issues and stressors such as grief, loss, and relationships.
It is important for this kind of work together that we are a good match. Please feel free to call or email for a free 15 minute consultation to see if we are a good fit.
